Planning the project
The Arlington Heights Police Department in Arlington Heights, Illinois, had been housed in a cramped, outdated building for years. When the time finally came to begin planning and constructing a new facility, the design team had several overarching goals: they wanted to improve comfort and efficiency for officers and staff, create a welcoming space for the community, and provide secure storage for records and evidence.
Our team was committed to making the best use of taxpayer funds by investing in high-quality fixtures and materials that would stand the test of time. We used the National IPA Contract to purchase our products at a better price. Our competitive prices helped the Police Department acquire exactly what they needed rather than having to take a low bid for lesser quality equipment.
Working with the AHPD to find the right solution for their station.
We worked closely with Deputy Chief Nick Pecora, their records staff, the evidence technician, and with Legat Architects to plan high-density systems for both records and evidence storage to accommodate both their current and future needs.

Employee lockers
The new building takes a completely new approach. The locker rooms are upstairs, so officers can get dressed and go down to the main floor for roll call.
The Village of Arlington Heights had to cut down over 30,000 ash trees due to the Asian Beetle infestation. Because the Village had saved the trunks of those trees, they were able to repurpose the wood and use it throughout the facility.
Gear Lockers
Rifles and duty bags are stored in lockers adjacent to the garage, so officers can pick up their gear on the way to their patrol cars. “We wanted to minimize carrying heavy gear through the building,” said the deputy chief.
Evidence storage
The AHPD was accredited from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in 2008. We followed strict procedures to maintain their accreditation during the move to the new building. The department uses Spacesaver evidence lockers and high density storage systems to ensure that evidence and records are documented, transferred, and stored in compliance with CALEA-approved procedures, .
Community center
The AHPD wanted to strengthen its relationship with the community. We helped design a large community room to host meetings and gatherings that is filled with natural light. The new center creates a pleasant, inviting atmosphere for local residents.
In addition to what is shown above, we provided high-density storage systems, long gun lockers, and storage for the Honor Guard uniforms.
